Even if you’re not in love, you’re probably just a little bit in love with San Francisco. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Exploratorium offers this filmic valentine to the City by the Bay on Saturday, February 14, at 2pm. Admission is included in the price of admission to the Exploratorium.
A Trip Down Market Street (1905, 10 min., black and white silent 16mm film)
This film, made by an anonymous filmmaker, documents the movement of people and vehicles on a turn-of-the-century Market Street. View this film, and look back in time at a young, vibrant San Francisco.
Notes on the Port of Saint Francis (1952, 21 min., black and white 16mm film)
Made with humor and affection, Notes depicts a diverse city, transformed by light and fog, sitting on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Made by Frank Stauffacher, with narration by Vincent Price.
Moods of the City (1971, 12 min., color 16mm film)
This lyrical portrait of a San Francisco illuminated by color and ephemeral fog was made by the Westwood Cinema Club.
Designated Walk (1999, 3 min., black and white 16mm film)
Michael Rosas Walsh traces the filmmaker’s path between home and work on Russian Hill.
