One Day Camp: Junk Food Science and Art – February 17, 2012

One Day Camp: Junk Food Science and Art
Friday, February 17, 2012
9 am – 4 pm

Camp isn’t just for summer anymore! Come and get messy, down and dirty while discovering the science behind junk food. Campers will also get crafty and creative at Junk Food Science and Art, a one-day camp on Friday, February 17, from 9 am to 4 pm. Who knew that junk food could make you smarter? Can it? Or that it can provide us with fun art materials?

Kids, ages 7 to 10 years, will spend a day making food burn, bubble, and fizz while they learn what’s it’s composed of. Make food art and architecture, and learn how to build your own lava lamp from what’s in your kitchen cupboard. This one-day camp offers playful and creative opportunities for children to explore the world around them using a mix of science activities, experiments, art projects, group games, our vast exhibit collection, and more.  Every session includes curiosity-driven free exploration in the Exploratorium before it opens to the public. Kids can now go to camp when school is out on select San Francisco public school holidays and furlough days.

Camp days are 9 am – 4 pm. Extended care is available; the hours are 8:30 am – 9am and 4pm – 5:30 pm. Price: $70 for Members and $85 for Nonmembers. Please visit the web site for more information and to register: http://www.exploratorium.edu/membership/day_camps/#one-day . You do not need to be a member to register for this event.
