NOAA and San Francisco’s Exploratorium to Announce Educational Partnership:
First Project to Focus on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer

San Francisco’s Exploratorium and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will announce a five-year partnership to bring climate and ocean sciences to the public. This collaboration connects NOAA’s scientific and observational resources with the creativity and educational expertise of the pioneer of the modern science center. The first project will focus on NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer.

WHAT: A partnership to allow an unprecedented view into NOAA’s ocean exploration and weather and climate sciences, using the Exploratorium’s educational expertise to develop new methods of engaging the public.

Opportunities to interview NOAA and Exploratorium leaders

A tour of NOAA’s new ship Okeanos Explorer, America’s ship for ocean exploration; release of images from data collected by the ship’s multibeam sonar, showing previously unknown features, including a seamount and a water column mega-plume off the California coast.

11:30 a.m.: Opportunity to interview NOAA and Exploratorium leadership
