 Dive Into the Sonic Soup:In the exhibition, listen as a musician does for the patterns that form the structural framework of musical composition. Or sort out the aural clues that evoke a sense of place – automatic doors and cash registers vs. teaspoons clinking against cups and espresso machines.

 Accumulation Piece & Enter Listening, by Artist Michelle Nagai:Enter Listening is a multi-channel audio installation situated in an enclosed passageway at the main entrance to the exhibit. The work features the voices of eight individuals interviewed by the artist. Accumulation Piece, located over the stairs to the Exploratorium’s mezzanine, is a reflection on the sound of the human voice.

 What You Said, How You Said It:In this artwork, spoken words slowly transform from one accent to another using real-time signal processing techniques implemented in software.

 Talking Stick, by Artist Nigel Helyer:Talking Stick is a beguilingly simple interactive audio work that invites visitors equipped with a stick-like speaker device to take a sonic stroll through the Exploratorium’s new Listen exhibition, to literally seek out a network of hidden sonic narratives.

The Exploratorium is located inside the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco's Marina District. Museum admission is as follows: Members FREE; Adults (18-64) $14.00; University Students (with ID) $11.00; Senior Citizens (65+) $11.00; People with disabilities $11.00; Youth (13-17) $11.00; Children (4-12) $9.00; Children Under 4 FREE. First Wednesdays of the month FREE. Exploratorium hours are TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY 10am–5pm, Open First Thursday of the month for adult evening hours until 10pm. CLOSED MONDAYS, except for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. The Exploratorium is wheelchair accessible. For information, call (415) EXP-LORE.
