Saturday, November 19th

The Exploratorium Film Program presents Exploring Two Processes: The Art and Science of Glass on Saturday, November 19, at 2pm in the Exploratorium’s McBean Theater. The program is free with museum admission. It includes:
Glass (1959,7 min.), by Bert Haanstra, is an Academy-Award-winning documentary on the art of glass blowing, contrasting scenes of ancient methods of blowing to a modern mechanical process. The movements are concisely edited and beautifully synchronized with a jazz score.
The Poetic Element (2004, 8 min.) by Matthew Radcliff, a chemist-turned-filmmaker, examines the similarities between artists and scientists in action, showing the specialized techniques, the tools of the trade, and the flashes of inspiration. Radcliff shows the creative process shared by both scientists and artists and reveals how a sense of fun and play is an important ingredient in creative thinking.
