Evocation of Place Film Series at the Exploratorium

Saturday, May 17, 2pm

On Saturday, May 17, at 2pm, join the Exploratorium’s Film Program for an afternoon of lyrical short films that resonate with the power of place. Films are shown in the Exploratorium’s McBean Theater and are included in the price of admission to the museum. The schedule is as follows:

In A Monumental Landscape (1989, 6 min.), Marina McDougall explores the anomalies of architecture and place specific to San Luis Obispo, CA, the small coastal town where she grew up.

All My Life (1966, 3 min.), by Bruce Baillie, is a sunny film consisting of one continuous camera movement along a flower-covered fence in Caspar, CA. Set to the Ella Fitzgerald/Teddy Wilson tune “All My Life.”

Panorama (1982, 13 min.), by Michael Rudnick, chronicles the endless shift of light, reflection, and shadow made by clouds, sunsets, and moonrises along the San Francisco skyline.

Natalija Vekic and Christian Bruno shot From Saturday to Sunday (2008, 5 min.) on two Super-8 cameras, then projected the films side by side — creating a call and response between their different visions of Mexico City, Paris, New York, Budapest, and Northern California. Featuring music by Erik Satie, Ramon & Jessica, and East Ghost/West Ghost.

The Exploratorium is located inside the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco's Marina District. First Wednesdays of the month FREE. Exploratorium hours are TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY 10am–5pm, Open First Thursday of the month for adult evening hours until 10pm.
